Often stress, boredom, and depression leads to overeating the wrong foods. When we are hungry, often, we crave sugar or snack foods. We buy the coffee roll in the morning at work and reach for the a bag of chips when hungry to satisfy our hunger. This often leads to eating food that satisfies our craving but is not really healthy or good for us.
Food high in sugar, fat, and salt often taste good and satisfy our hunger pangs temporarily. Still many hunger cravings are a chemical imbalance and good nutritional food would correct this problem.
These quick fix foods that taste good like cakes, muffins, breads, and snack food just satiate you for a short time. So called good carbs are whole grains that break down in the bloodstream almost as fast as refined grains and can easily spike your blood sugar levels.
When you eat good carbohydrates (vegetables), your body releases serotonin, a chemical that helps improve your mood and depression. High levels will control appetite and provide a feeling of well-being and inner calm.
Lean meats, beans, poultry, and dairy often improve mental alertness and concentration.
Eating foods with healthy oils like fish with omega-3 fatty acids, and nuts in moderation will satisfy your appetite and keep you from getting hungry. Good oils like olive, canola, and peanut can be used in cooking and baking.
When dieting, it is important to eat food that provides good nutrition and vitamins. Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy products will help you lose weight and feel better.
Pleasure food often leads to weight gain and health problems. Physical exercise like walking, biking, or swimming helps improve your mood. When short on time, consider having a piece of meat with frozen vegetables, salad, or fruit.
Learning to recognize the pain of pleasure food and changing your diet is the first step to solve the problem.
